There’s a lot to like about ice fishing: The peace and quiet of a frozen lake. The anticipation. The competition of who will catch the first fish. The camaraderie. The laughter. And then there’s the biting cold, the boredom of staring down a hole when the fish aren’t biting, dealing with the portable shacks, the augers, the tip-ups, the jiggle sticks, the bait.
With the SnoBear—part snowmobile, part ice fishing shack—you don’t have to brave the elements, stick to one fishing spot, or worry about bringing all the gear. Owned by avid outdoorsman/professional fishing guide Dan Eigen (aka “Walleye Dan”), you have to see the SnoBear, the “original ice fishing dream machine,” to believe it. http://www.walleyedan.com/sno-bear/
Equipped with tracks and skis, the SnoBear has the capacity to drive across rugged, icy, snowy terrain, safely distributing the weight to less than one pound per square inch. It lowers hydraulically to bring guests nice and close to the ice. It’s not only comfortably heated, but features padded benches, a stereo system, an underwater camera, spotlights front and rear, and four built-in latched fishing holes in the floor (if the fish aren’t biting, you can easily reel up, close the latches, and roll over to a new spot).
Whether you’re new to ice fishing, a hard-core angler, or just curious about the bells and whistles of the SnoBear, this fun, unique experience could become part of your Quarterdeck Resort getaway. (The SnoBear will pick you up at the resort.) Guided ice fishing trips are $100 per hour/per trip with a three-person occupancy (plus guide).
Another way to experience the SnoBear—without ice fishing—is by booking a cruise around Gull Lake at a fee of $75 per hour (six people max, plus the guide).
